February 6 | Zero tolerance to female genital mutilation
On 6 February, the whole world mobilizes to say stop female genital mutilation (FGM). This international day, recognized by the UN, reminds us that excision is a serious violence against girls and women. FGM has no medical use.
They cause pain, infections, problems during pregnancy, and psychological injuries that can last a lifetime.
Above all, they violate the fundamental right of every girl to dispose of her body.
Even today, more than 230 million girls and women around the world have undergone this practice, and millions more are still threatened if we do not change attitudes.
Even when practiced by doctors, FGM remains dangerous.
Medicalization does not make them acceptable, on the contrary, it gives them a false image of security.
Every girl deserves to grow up free, healthy and respected.
That is why Zonta International, a global organization committed to women’s rights, works to end all forms of violence against girls and women, including female circumcision.
On this International Day of Zero Tolerance:
• Let’s talk about it around us,
• Let’s inform our friends,
• Support associations that protect girls,
• Let’s refuse silence.
💜 Change starts with us.
💜 Zero tolerance for female genital mutilation.
