On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to recognise girls' rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

10th anniversary of the International Day of the girl child

Girls are ready for a decade of acceleration. It's time for all of us to be accountable - with and for girls - and invest in a future that believes in their action, leadership an potential.

On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly declared in resolution 66/170 the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, in order to recognize the rights of girls and the particular barriers they face around the world.
